About Derek Oberreit

Derek Oberreit is an engineer, entrepreneur, designer, and mentor who works at the intersection of research, technology innovation, product development, and manufacturing for laboratory and industrial instrumentation. As a global leader across many industries, he creates solutions that help provide insight into multi-phase fluid properties (aerosols and colloids). His solutions offer industry leading speed, precision, accuracy, repeatability, reliability, and resolution. Derek’s professional experience is guided by three key philosophies: fail fast, stand on the shoulders of giants, and always ask why. Derek is Vice President of R&D for Kanomax FMT, Inc, a global leader in instrumentation for multi-phase fluid analysis. At Kanomax FMT, Derek is responsible for commercialization of state-of-the-art instrumentation. He speaks throughout the world about development and application of new measurement methods and devices. Derek is the co-inventor of four awarded patents and several pending patents. He’s authored or co-authored 13 peer-reviewed journal publications. He is also the recipient of a National Defense Science and Engineering Fellowship and the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. In addition to his passion for design, technology, and business, Derek is the devoted father of two boys. He also enjoys playing guitar, hiking, and gardening.
