About Derek Prater

This work is a nexus of my two passions: storytelling and learning. As a leader in the learning product development space, I bring 10 years of relevant experience implementing solutions, developing processes, and leading teams in the creation of print and eLearning products. Although I no longer author content myself, leading a team in these efforts is still firmly based in communication and storytelling. And the stories we help tell are the building blocks for learning that empowers our customers. I work closely with corporate leadership in an advisory and consultant role, providing expert feedback, guidance, and direction in refining existing training content and implementing continuous process improvements. Throughout my career, I have proactively identified challenges and turned them into opportunities. This includes championing and supporting strategic innovative modalities, emerging trends in technology, and the implementation of best practices regarding adult learning methodologies and engagement. As learning has transitioned to laptops, tablets, and mobile phones – devices that have become essential to modern life – I’ve focused my team on understanding how to develop content for those platforms that meets the needs of today’s diverse learners. KEY QUALIFICATIONS: Experience leading cross-functional and matrixed teams in learning and development projects and initiatives. Deep knowledge of learning program development processes and market imperatives, including DEI, accessibility, and responsive design. Ability to identify performance gaps and other challenges to implement appropriate solutions. Demonstrated project management experience, overseeing all phases of a project from conception to deliverables. Advanced technical proficiency and ability to translate complex concepts into easy-to-understand language.
