BIO – DIRECTOR/PRODUCER/WRITER Derek Ryan is a career freelancer who has been working in the film and television industry for many years. Ryan emerged as a director, as the Factual/Non Scripted genre hit the airwaves with new channels such as Life, HGTV and W Network. He has since directed over 300 episodes of some of TV’s biggest reality series from Love It or List It to Divine Design to Income Property all big US TV success stories. Also during this time Derek joined forces with Radical Sheep Productions and directed over 50 episodes of scripted pre-school and Tween drama, the most notable being The Big Comfy Couch. Most recently Ryan has directed several episodes of The Stanley Dynamic for YTV and became a regular on The Next Step airing on Family Channel, as well as creating sizzles for Non scripted/factual TV production companies. Derek started out as a director for hire but has also produced/written/story produced and created many series as well. He created The Next Star for YTV which ran for 7 seasons, episode segments for TVO’s The Space, and countless other productions.
