About Derek Ryan

I have been a resident of Eastern Iowa/Western Illinois area since 1988, moving from Northwest Iowa while in High School in Muscatine, Iowa and was married in 1991 shortly before leaving for Operation Desert Storm. After Desert Storm I was hired as a carpenter by Cox Contracting and went through a 4 year apprenticeship and became a Journeyman Carpenter in 1998. After the business closed in 2007, I worked several short jobs through the union hall for contractors such as Kiewit, Hillibrand Construction and Estes. Work became hard to find after housing market crash and for the next several years I supported my wife so she could finish nursing school. In the fall of 2012 I decided to finally pursue my passion, which has always been computers, and go back to school. I enrolled at Blackhawk College in their IT/Network Administration program. In 2013, I worked for Stefanini fielding help desk calls from fortune 500 companies such as Joy Global, Infineum, Duke Realty, Alvarez & Marsal and Vallourec. After 6 months, I was offered a position at Community Health Care, running their help desk, and while working for them I completed my CompTIA Security +CE and Comp TIA A+ Certifications. In late 2015, Shared IT offered me a spot on their IT Team, which I gladly accepted. As a member of the "Gazelle" team at Shared IT, I have over a dozen smaller clients in and around the Quad City area. I provide both Network Administrator and CIO services to many smaller companies including; Putnam Museum, Universal Tank and Fabrication, Gastrointestinal Clinics of the Quad Cities, Markman Peat Corp, and Quad City Neurology and Spine to name a few. My daily duties take me from fielding simple help desk calls from clients, to providing on-site Network Management/Security and CIO services as well as providing Network Administration to Network Security design and implementation.
