About Derek Scacchetti

I am a designer passionate about developing impactful brands and experiences. My work blends creativity with strategy, building compelling visuals, and producing engaging experiences and products. At Designs Direct, I have served as a product designer and project coordinator, working with global manufacturers and artists to bring innovative home decor products to market. I managed in-house artist content, overseeing creative direction and ensuring alignment with branding strategies. I also worked on initiatives in product innovation, collaborating with overseas manufacturers to develop new designs and strategies for large-scale production. As a Teaching Artist for ArtWorks’ Hero Design Company, I led and mentored a team of apprentices through the design process, fostering collaboration and problem-solving. I managed project timelines and community engagement initiatives, ensuring successful program execution. Additionally, I guided apprentices in community engagement, emphasizing empathy and storytelling as key elements of the design process. Before that, I led brand development at Coffee Emporium, where I revitalized their visual identity, launched their first online store, and highlighted the craftsmanship behind their products. Beyond design, I’ve invested in leadership development through the Leadership Excelleration program, gaining expertise in team dynamics, coaching, and strategic problem-solving. I thrive on collaboration, innovation, and bringing creative visions to life. I’m also deeply involved in my community, contributing to initiatives such as Cincinnati Preservation Collective, Queen City Bike Month, and the People’s Liberty “Look Here!” project. In 2016 I founded Urban Rangers Midwest to inspire curiosity about cities through guided hikes and community events. I shape the vision, develop tours, and lead hikes that highlight neighborhoods and public spaces. Through storytelling and exploration, I help people see the urban environment in new ways and connect more deeply with their surroundings. Outside of work, I enjoy coffee culture, urban history, backpacking, travel, and cycling.
