About Derek Summers
If tactile art is how we decorate the space around us then music is how we decorate time. My name is Derek Summers, I am a student at Colorado State University currently studying music education. My primary instrument is percussion and I am studying under Dr. Eric Hollenbeck. I am a passionate and driven member of the music education community. I am a prospective music educator and a full-time musician. I find so much joy when I'm teaching young minds the wonders of music. I find myself loving every moment of the teaching process and the student's own learning process. One of my favorite things is when students find their own musical expression. When I'm not teaching, I'm learning new percussion instruments, composing my own music, playing my favorite video games, or watching my favorite shows.
