About Derek Sweem

My name is Derek Sweem. I am a first-generation college student. I am From Fontana CA (IE). I was raised by a single mother alongside my two siblings. Because of her hard work and sacrifice, I am the first in my family to earn a bachelor's degree (Political Science) and will be the first to earn a Master's (Public Administration). I work every day to earn the blessings that God has given me. I have chosen to pursue a career in public service to give back to my community and be the voice for the countless individuals that often get overlooked or go without. This is best achieved through partnerships and strategic collaborations. Keeping on an open mind, being open to new experiences, and being an active listener are tools that I practice daily, to work toward building these partnerships and providing solutions to the NEED of any task I am faced with while of service. My professional experiences and education and has taught me that government( or public organizations) is a tool, that needs to be managed responsibly (fiscally), lead morally(ethically), and need to actively seek their constituency's input (democratically).
