About Derek Truong
When a child is diagnosed with autism, the lives of the child and their family are significantly changed. My greatest passion is to help children develop the fundamental skills they need to thrive at home, at school and in the broader community. I know that simply teaching skills to children on the spectrum is not enough. They need to be able to adapt those skills to ever-changing environments even when there is no one there to guide them. I therefore specialise in home and school-based therapy sessions with a particular focus on meta-learning skills; learning to learn. Children that I work with develop the confidence to try new experiences and ideas without the fear of failure. My educational background includes an honours degree in Science (Psychology) from the University of Sydney and I have also been certified by the University of California Davis as an Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) therapist.
