About Derek Turner
I'm a Geoscience educator interested in providing experiential and active learning for my students. Doing is the best way to learn Geoscience so I believe in exploring innovative ways of bringing students into the field or bringing the field to them through the purposeful use of technology. I am also a terrain mapper and Quaternary geologist with experience in applying surficial geology and geomorphology to assist mineral exploration, oil and gas infrastructure development and environmental impact assessments. My knowledge is based on my PhD and MSc studies in Quaternary Geology at SFU and over 15 years of field-based industry experience.
