Background

About Derek Tywoniuk

I am an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC) and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), currently serving as a Primary Therapist at No Matter What Recovery. Previously, I served as the Discharge Coordinator at Camden Center, linking clients with appropriate aftercare resources for mental health (including trauma), substance use, and eating disorder clients. I recently completed an MS in Counseling, completing my internship hours as a therapist at The Gooden Center's outpatient program. Prior to working in the mental health field, I studied, composed, and performed classical and contemporary music. I earned a PhD from UCLA in music theory and composition, where my dissertation focused on the textural, textural, and temporal aspects of George Lewis's work "The Will to Adorn," and additional research interests included LGBTQ+ issues, gender, race, and the music of Franco Donatoni. As a freelance musician I've focused on contemporary and classical music, performing throughout the United States and internationally.
