About Derek Underwood

Before returning to England in July 2020, I worked in a teaching capacity as an ESL instructor in face to face meetings and online. I worked for Berlitz school of languages in Gdańsk, Poland from January 2018 until my return. I taught adults who needed help in business English, in social situations, or just improving their employment prospects. I also worked for Speak Up Wrzeszcz, Speak Up Heweliusza schools (in Gdansk) and Future School, based in Warsaw (notably BPH Bank) Whilst working in Gdańsk I also consulted on projects with the institute of national remembrance (IPN) in Gdańsk, and the university of Mikołaj Kopernik (UMK) in Toruń as well as other smaller pieces of work and articles with other individuals. Before going to Poland on a two- year career break I worked exclusively in Nottingham, UK. where i worked at Boots UK. I spent 14 years at Boots. Among my roles were assistant control room manager, working at height trainer, and transport coordinator. I loved talking to people from different countries and learning a little of their language. Going forward. In the next four years I want to learn German and Polish, so that I can return to Europe and continue teaching English. Now I have the bug, I don't want to lose it. I'm looking forward to working in either Germany, Austria or even Switzerland.
