About Desiree Harned

I am a serial skill collector and professional learner. I believe that education opens doors and that I seek as much as I can learn. I thirst for knowledge, but with this thirst I want to teach others and help create a love for learning. I also believe in the development of curriculum that does the same making learning fun, essential and creating a love of learning to last a lifetime. I currently substitute teach in McCracken Country while I finish my doctoral work. At SIU I am a teaching assistant for both pre service teaching course of Science methods for Elementary School Teachers. I also work as a graduate assistant for a grant project from the Illinois State Board of Education to assess and develop a new science assessment for K-12 grades. I assist the STEM Center through the science education department in curriculum and instruction with professional development (like Project WILD), K-12 science learning, and outreach into the Southern Illinois school system to assist teachers in to implement NGSS science curriculum in their classroom.
