Background

About Destiny Lusk

With a Bachelor’s in Psychology from West Virginia University, I joined the Monongalia County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) as a Forensic Interviewer and Family Advocate in Sep 2023. In this role, I provided comprehensive and compassionate support to victims of child abuse and their families, using a trauma-informed and culturally competent approach. I conducted forensic interviews and mental health screenings for clients of various marginalized communities and victimization categories and advocated for their needs and rights, linking them to resources, referrals, and information. I also facilitated case management and coordination with the Multi-Disciplinary Investigative Team (MDT), tracking, documenting, and supplying case updates to the family. My passion for helping children and families overcome trauma and achieve justice and healing stems from my own personal and academic experiences. As a low-income, first-generation college student, I faced and overcame many obstacles in my educational journey, earning multiple scholarships and awards, such as the Horatio Alger National Scholarship and the Alma and Claude Rowe Excellence Through Equity Award. I also gained valuable skills and insights from my previous experiences as a Peer Mentor and a Funeral Attendant, where I advised, counseled, and supported diverse populations. Additionally, I hold multiple certifications in relevant topics from the Zero Abuse Project, the National Children’s Alliance (NCA), and the West Virginia Child Advocacy Network (WVCAN), which demonstrate my commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
