About Destiny Seaton

Destiny Seaton graduated Summa Cum Laude May 2019 from Middle Tennessee State University with a B.S. in Journalism and minors in Global Studies and Honors. She transferred to MTSU from Columbia State Community College as an Honors College Transfer Fellow in 2017. Destiny believes that because of the increased politicization of scientific and environmental issues coupled with the American public’s poor understanding of climate change, it is crucial that journalists voice evidence-based reasoning in reporting. Her plans for the future include: using journalism to be a voice for the environment and continuing her research within a P.h.D. program on the ways the media communicates about climate change. Because of her environmental work and research, she is a 2018 Udall Scholar, an award given to 50 students in the nation for environmental stewardship or work within Native American healthcare and policies. She has also studied abroad four times in Brazil, South Africa, Argentina, and Indonesia. In 2019 she spent over two months after graduating from MTSU in Malang, Indonesia studying the Indonesian language — courtesy of the Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship.
