About Devakumar Thenchery

Accumulated six and half years of working experience in the field of high profile Architectural design practice at concept formulation; planning and detailing and more than five years of experience in teaching. After graduating from College of Engineering, Trivandrum in 2007, worked in different firms in India and abroad. The inclination towards Traditional Architecture made to pursue a PG Diploma in the same, so along with mainstream architecture, started practice in traditional and temple architecture of Kerala. After acquiring some solid experience in architectural practice, decided to build a strong career in teaching; so completed M. Arch in Conservation from SPA Bhopal with Gold Medal. PG Thesis titled ‘Ritualistic Landscape of Kalamezhuth Paatt of Kerala’; was based on a ritual and the landscape shaped by the ritual and was highly appreciated for tapping an unexplored area. Conducted heritage documentation workshop and heritage walks in Kozhikode. Presented papers in various conferences in India and abroad. Some of them are ACLA 5th International Symposium, Thailand 2016, ATIENR 7th Conference on Architecture, Athens 2017 etc. Recieved UNESCO Sahapedia Research Fellowship in 2017 for studying intangible cultural heritage of India. Currently doing PhD in conservation studies from University of York, UK and expected to complete by 2022.Areas of interest: Traditional Architecture, Architectural Research, Documentation of Cultural Heritage
