About Devan Lalas

I aspire to empower students who struggled academically in high school (“at-risk”) or those who have faced challenges in their lives that have led them on a non-traditional path (first-generation, low income, independent). Supporting students in transition or just entering the academy, I aim to foster learning environments that help students discover a sense of accomplishment, potential, personal self-worth, and the ability to be successful in a college environment. Supporting both intentional high-touch (1-on-1’s, programming) and high-impact practices (first year seminars, summer learning communities, etc.), I seek to support these underserved populations by providing individual support; helping students to reframe personally what it means to be successful and create a path to achieve their own personal aspirations. I desire to change the lives of students who think they cannot be successful - to those who know they will be.
