About Devika Ranjan

Devika Ranjan is a theatre-maker, ethnographer, and educator who tells stories about migration through performance, research, and advocacy. Devika has facilitated theatre workshops internationally, specializing in devised performance about social justice issues. Her work has been commended by HRH Meghan Markle for its importance for vulnerable people and political crises at large. As Resident Director at Albany Park Theater Project, Devika works with immigrant and first-generation teens to create ethnographic theater about community issues like family separation, food insecurity, and deportation. Devika also teaches in the Theater and Performance Studies Department at Georgetown University, where she was an Inaugural Fellow at the Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics from 2017-2019. In the past, she has been a Global Cultural Fellow at the Institute for International Cultural Relations, University of Edinburgh, and a Projects for Peace Fellow with the Davis Foundation. As a Marshall Scholar in the UK, Devika holds a distinction from the University of Cambridge for her MPhil work on the electronic tagging of asylum-seekers, and an MA in Applied Theatre from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Devika also has a degree in Foreign Service, with concentrations in Culture and Politics and Arabic, from Georgetown University. She is currently based in
