Background
About Devin Belnap
Starting very young, I found computers to be a fascinating. I started out with a laptop that was larger than the majority of nowadays computer due to its time period and built in dot matrix printer. I originated using Microsoft DOS and have progressed through the many version of windows since. We had a family friend who would buy computers and parts from thrift stores and donate them to encourage me to learn. I remember using and working on many desktops, breaking them by learning what I could push them to do and then have to figure out how to reverse them back into working order. As I attended High School, I took college classes associated with a CCNA (although, I never went and got certified) and was hired on to assist the System Administrator for the School District because of my great ability to debug, my knowledge and other skills. I would work there after school, sometimes during school, and during the summer. I even had the opportunity to fully run and rewire a number of our school district buildings during all this time. After graduating and taking time to server as a missionary for my church, I moved to Utah doing temp jobs as I settled my roots. One of the jobs I took was for seasonal work for a government agency abating mosquitoes. I worked on various crews there and learned a lot. After the season was over, I took a job working for a gourmet store where I did wholesale delivery, retail stocking, worked as cashier, and ran the demo table for sales. I am still offered a job every time I revisit. The next year, the mosquito abatement asked if I would return for another season. They were trying to implement GIS into the work to streamline data access and entry. I was placed on the crew that was trying out this new technology and began learning its functionality. As I would work, I would find bugs, talk to the creator and even tell him how to fix them without ever seeing the back end. This person was leaving the agency and was therefore looking for a replacement and I was shortly after hired to do the IT (which was a home router and 5 computer) as well as continue the start of their GIS program. Since that time, we now have a full IT facility with proper equipment and security, as well as a GIS program that consists of collecting data and gives live up to date information on all work being done at the agency. Besides temporary assistants that I train, this has all been done by me as I am the only member of the team even at this moment. I love what I do and feel rewarded and very accomplished in it. I'm very proficient in ESRI products.
