Devin S. James founded the Devin James Group (DJG), a public relations and community engagement firm in 2004 and flourished as the leader receiving various accolades including the PRWeek Exceptional Public Relations Campaign Award for Fight Colorectal Cancer’s “One Million Strong” National Awareness Campaign, the Rising Star of Kansas City Award by KC Business Magazine, and recognized by the Memphis Business Journal as one of the Top Advertising Agency CEO’s in West Tennessee for 4 consecutive years. In 2014, he expanded DJG to establish a west coast presence after receiving the Union Bank Scholarship to attend the Minority Business Executive Program at University of Washington’s Foster School of Business in Seattle. While there he corralled his classmates to use their collective networks to fundraise for several non-profits like the California Autism Foundation; and was also elected Class President. In 2015, he became a best-selling author with the release of Inside Ferguson: A Voice for the Voiceless; which was ranked #5 on the Post Dispatch's Nonfiction Bestsellers list and was nominated for several awards including Book of the Year for its contribution to social philosophy by the NASSP. In 2016, he founded Refurban and in 2017 he expanded it from STL to his hometown Memphis and acquired a square foot facility that was left vacant for nearly 20 years by the Kroger Co; pursuing a long-time interest for combining recycling innovation and reuse with urban community investment.
