About Devin Waas

I like to drive business outcome solving technical problems alongside talented people. Disturbingly curious, I ask many stupid questions and sooner or later an elephant in the room gets unveiled. I reason in terms of risks that can affect the business and work to hedge against them: technology being the main tool (but not the only). Problems I like to tackle- Scalable & maintainable architectures: decoupling modules to enable team independence - Efficient and cost effective systems (that result in better Free Cashflow for the company): e.g. saving 1.3M/y @ S1- Observation, Measurability, and quality control of systems Systems & Infrastructure: C, C++(23), Rust, Golang, Scala. Distributed Systems & Storage: Ceph, Oracle DB, Databricks (Spark/Scala). Automation & Cloud Orchestration: AWS, OpenStack, Ansible, Salt, Jenkins, Docker, Conan. Scripting: Expert-level Bash, Python, Perl for rapid tooling and system glue. Other interests include: Entrepreneurship: I co-founded a startup that entered the Bocconi Business Incubator. Music and arts: I used to play in a very popular Hard Rock and Heavy Metal band in Milan called Garden of Madness. We played one gig in one of the most important theaters in the city (Teatro Piccolo) and the theater was full; I couldn't ask for more from a high school band. Currently engaged in various projects in Prague: both recording and playing live original pieces. Cultural Integration: my work at Lotus Club allowed us to support laws extending Italian citizenship for "Italians everywhere but on paper".
