About Devney Hamilton

Software engineer with 8 years experience building and launching software with non-profits, movement organizers, startups, and Fortune 500s. My experience includes- integrating systems with complex data flows- designing web hooks, APIs, and databases for maintainability and adaptability- building three minimum viable products that secured additional investment- modernizing and adapting legacy software- success on remote, cross-functional, agile teams committed to user-centered design. My approach includes- applying computer science fundamentals to learn new tools, codebases, and systems quickly and holistically- prioritizing maintainability for software, and equity for people- basing engineering decisions on users' needs and organizational context- valuing every kind of expertise, first and foremost lived experience, in my collaborations- constantly learning, championing my teammates, and dancing at small successes. Since 2017, I have been building software in deep collaboration with change-makers working for fair elections, digital privacy, accessible healthcare, community healing, and equitable economies as a member of Sassafras Tech Collective. Before that, I learned world-class software development practices at Atomic Object where we helped midsize, large, and Fortune 500 companies get ahead of technology trends. I always carry my experiences as a Stanford University Course Assistant and a Girls Who Code Instructor, where I created curricula to fill gaps in inclusion and built habits I use today to empower my whole team.
