About Devon Clarke
I am a certified teacher in the province of Ontario with over 10 years of teaching experience. I am currently employed as a permanent teacher with the Peel District School Board in the greater Toronto area. Some of my recent teaching experiences include preparing and delivering lessons for the core subjects from the Ontario elementary curriculum; In addition to working in the Republic of Ireland where I taught English as a foreign language. In my current role as an Enhanced Learning Class teacher, I facilitate inquiry-based projects and assignments that encourage students to produce work that appeals to their individual interests. In my previous role as an English as a foreign language teacher, I delivered activity-based lessons to engage adult learners and help them improve their English language skills. I work well independently to prepare daily lessons, deliver the curriculum, and assess/evaluate student learning. I also collaborate well with colleagues by listening carefully to the ideas of others, responding appropriately and seeking a compromise that ensures that all persons involved are satisfied with decisions/outcomes. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from York University with a major area of study in English literature, and a Bachelor of Education degree from Trent University with a major area of study in primary/junior education. Since completing my initial teacher certification, I have successfully completed a three-part writing specialist, in addition to senior English, special education, and health and physical education qualifications. My particular skills include a strong commitment to student success, a collaborative leadership approach, and engaging lesson plans that my teaching evaluations suggest are student centered.
