About Devon Hansen
Devon Hansen obtained a Bachelor of Music in piano performance magne cum laud as well as a Master of Arts in Musicology from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He also attended the "Musician's Mentoring Course" at the National Ballet School at the young age of 16. He has been accompanying classes both in theatre, music, and dance on both sides of the border for over a decade now. He is most proud to have accompanied under the late Erich Kunzel and John Morris Russell. Due to his energy, passion and vibrant playing, Devon is actively in demand as a soloist, chamber artist, composer, teacher, and music director. Devon is very familiar with the musical theatre community in both Windsor and Detroit and has been involved as accompanist, pianist and/or music director for many shows including Guys and Dolls, Ragtime, Mamma Mia and Hairspray. Devon made his Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 25 with the show “How Sweet the Sound” with soprano Lynda Wood. In 2018 he took a choir from Chatham-Kent to sing in France, and is currently planning a 2024 trip to Ireland/Scotland. Devon is the Director of Music at St. Andrew’s United in Chatham where he oversees an energetic and growing music ministry. He founded the concert series "Saturdays at 7" which is now in its twelfth season as well as the “Spotlight Series” which is in its second season. In the academia world, Devon has been on the faculty of Wayne State University in the Department of Theater and Dance as well as Music, Oakland Community College in the Department of Music, and St. Clair College in the Music Theatre Department. Devon is also the founder of Chatham Music Academy, a community music school offering private and group instruction for all ages. Now in its seventh year, it boasts over 350 students and 14 teachers.
