About Devon Spiars

Devon is currently pursuing her J.D. at the University of Chicago Law School. Previously, she graduated Phi Kappa Phi and with High Distinction from the University of Michigan where she earned her degree in Social Theory and Practice and minored in Community Action and Social Change within the School of Social Work. Devon’s passion for violence prevention work inspired her thesis and development of a categorical framework that can predict the impending utilization of rape as a weapon of war. Beyond the classroom, Devon served as a training facilitation leader for the University of Michigan's Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center (SAPAC), a volunteer for SAPAC’s community outreach division, a research assistant, a co-author, and an art curator for the Prison Community Art Project. She also served on the YAB Board of the Steve Fund, an organization working to improve education and access to mental healthcare for the nation’s young people of color. After graduation, Devon continued to pursue research opportunities with the University of Michigan and Brown University’s Stolen Relations Project.
