About Devotha Nyambo

Devotha Godfrey Nyambo, a L'Oréal-UNESCO Young Talent Laureate is a researcher and lecturer at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), Tanzania. Currently, she also works as a Research Fellow at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, Germany. She has a PhD in Information and Communication Sciences and Engineering from the NM-AIST. She leads the Artificial Intelligence and Complexity Sciences research group at the NM-AIST, and also leads the Agriculture and Environmental Conservation group at Africa’s Anglophone Artificial Intelligence for Development (AI4D) Multidisciplinary Research Lab. Devotha is also a Center Leader of the ICT Resource Center at NM-AIST, which hosts the High-Performance Computing (HPC) Infrastructure together with HPC and Software testing Laboratories. The HPC facility is becoming a backbone for complex computation and data analytics, serving both the government and private sectors in Tanzania. Her research focus has been on the use of emerging technologies for modeling and development of tools for improvement of smallholder livestock keepers. Her recent developments are on mobile tools based on Machine Learning for farmers profiling and recommendations for on-farm decision support and early detection of ruminants’ infectious diseases. In addition to research activities, Devotha is a consultant in ICTs where she has engaged with African Union – InterAfrican Bereau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) as a paperless data collection tools developer; USOMI Limited as a data manager and field technical support; Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania (SAGCOT Centre Limited) as a system analyst; Agri Réseaux International (ARI) and AgThrive as a data manager and system analyst, and Badili Innovations as a field and desk Researcher for Large Language Models. Devotha is an active researcher with several peer-reviewed scientific publications. As an AWARD Laureate [African Women in Agricultural Research and Development] Devotha has engaged in research that benefits East Africans for over 10 years with a track record of winning grants and awards such as, African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS), from the Government of Tanzania through Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology, African Development Bank, AWARD, Deep Learning Indaba, Women in Machine Learning, Queen Elizabeth Scholarship - Advanced scholars program, Grace Hopper Celebrations for Women in Computing, and For Women in Science Young Talents awards by L'Oréal-UNESCO.
