Background
About Devyani Nighoskar
Passionate about responsible and localised storytelling, I specialise in ethical storytelling training, editorial strategy, and impact-driven communications. I have designed and delivered storytelling workshops for journalists, local governments, NGOs and refugee-led organisations, equipping them with the tools to capture nuanced narratives of migration, displacement, and social change. With a background in journalism, I bring more than 7 years of experience reporting on social justice issues, including gender, labour, forest rights, migration, and environmental justice, as well as indigenous arts. My work extends into strategic communications, where I craft research communication strategies, develop multimedia content, and lead advocacy-driven storytelling efforts for international organisations, including UN bodies. Through research, storytelling, and communication, I focus on shaping narratives that inform, influence policy, and amplify marginalised voices. I currently work as the Storytelling and Communications Officer at Samuel Hall, leading the overall storytelling and communications strategy. This includes overseeing Samuel Hall's multimedia blog, Samuel Hall Stories and producing the Samuel Hall Stories Podcast which spotlights migration narratives from the frontlines and promotes responsible storytelling with people on the move. In my role, I also spearhead research communications strategies, working with international organisations including UN Bodies to drive positive impact within migration research and programming. As my contract concludes in December, I’m looking to take my experience in ethical storytelling, editorial leadership, and research communication into new spaces where narratives can drive social change.
