About Dewald Venter

As a graduate of the Vaal University of Technology I obtained a Masters Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management that was not only methodologically accurate, but which sparked my interest and excitement about scholarly research. My research in tourism market segmentation was guided by my belief that it is my responsibility and duty to pursue, capture, discover and create knowledge about the tourism industry that could be used by industry to improve their service offerings. Such knowledge has also allowed me to assist the next generation of young researchers making their mark in the field of research. To achieve my research objectives, I chose my research field based on several personal beliefs. I strongly believe that any research must contribute to industry, other academics and the creation of new knowledge in field of tourism if it has to have any meaning. I strive to conduct research of the highest quality possible. If research is to be relevant and have an impact it must be based on quality data, thorough analyses and proper interpretation. It is critical to maintain a high quality of standards. I believe that research of a high quality requires personal and professional integrity. I understand that the way I perceive the world will change the more I learn. Therefore I must keep an open mind when confronted by others views, methods and ways of thinking in order to advance my understanding of the nature of what I study. In conclusion, I think that academic research is an interesting and exciting field and one that I am fortunate to be a part of.
