Background
About Dhani Prakoso
I attended veterinary school at Airlangga University, Indonesia, and received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 2004. In 2005, I worked at the Disease Investigation Center in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, under the Ministry of Agriculture, Indonesia. My primary responsibility was to perform diagnostic services for viral diseases. This included performing active and passive surveillance for viral diseases such as Avian Influenza, Newcastle Disease, Foot and Mouth Disease, Bovine Viral Diarrhea, Jembrana Disease, Rabies, etc. In 2009, I was awarded a Fulbright fellowship from the U.S. Department of State and admitted to the University of Florida for my master’s study. After finishing my master’s degree in 2011, I went on to obtain a doctorate degree under the Alumni Fellowship from the University of Florida, graduating in December of 2018 with a Ph.D. in Veterinary Medical Sciences. During my doctoral studies, I worked on intrahost genetic diversity of West Nile virus in horses under the supervision of Dr. Maureen Long. Upon graduation, I worked as a postdoctoral associate with Dr. Sreekumari Rajeev at the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine and the University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine. My works included diagnostic, genomics, and transcriptomics of Leptospira. I worked as a senior researcher at a research institute, Professor Nidom Foundation in Surabaya, Indonesia, on 2022 until 2025. I was involved in scientific seminars, researches, and as a coordinator in the bacteriology laboratory. I reactivated the research and veterinary diagnostic services at their bacteriology laboratory. Now, I am a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, Pennsylvania Animal Diagnostic Laboratory Systems at the New Bolton Center. My research is the development of molecular-based diagnostic tests utilizing next generation sequencing (NGS) and real-time PCR.
