About Diane Budden

Diane is a historian of health, disease and medicine with experience working in the heritage and healthcare sectors both in the United Kingdom and overseas. She has a proven track record of success in multi-stake holder engagements and has particular strengths in the museum learning, interpretation and the organisation, management and care of collections. She is currently working with the Royal Collection Trust and is a trustee of Dr Jenner's House, Museum and Garden. She completed her PhD in July 2024 with the School of Humanities at the University of Winchester, where she read late medieval/early modern history. Her research explored the healthcare practices, in a cultural province, which included Winchester, Southampton and Portsmouth, comparing and contrasting the actual impact of acts, statutes and the Reformation in the region with the macro narrative. From September 2025 she will be returning to the University of Winchester as a Visiting Fellow. She welcomes any opportunity to consolidate her historical and theoretical knowledge of collections management, communicating using collections and the history of medicine with hands-on practical experience.
