About Dianna Williams

I am the Deputy Director at Grassroots Leadership- Houston. Texas Advocates for Justice (TAJ), a criminal justice program at GRL, builds our membership base in the Black and Brown communities, to organize those who have been directly impacted by mass incarceration and criminalization in Texas. Through people power, we will lead campaigns for transformation of policy within the criminal justice system and help to build safe, healthy communities. I became involvement with the criminal justice system through membership with Texas Inmate Families Association (TIFA) in 2013. This organization supports and educates families while advocating for their loved ones who are incarcerated in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. I served as Houston Chapter Chair 2016-2018. In 2018 I became a Lead Organizer in Houston, Texas with the nonprofit organization Grassroots Leadership, based in Austin, Texas, for the criminal justice program, Texas Advocates for Justice (TAJ). This program's members are those who are formerly incarcerated and their families. In 2020, as the Houston chapter grew, I assumed the role of Organizing Manager for the Houston office and in January, 2024, assumed the role of Deputy Director in Houston, Texas. I am a member of The Harris County Racial and Ethnic Equity Committee, Texas Inmate Families Association, East Houston Democrats, NAACP Houston Chapter
