About Dick Janssen

Dick Albertus Willem was born on 10th of May in Tilburg Netherlands. He studied Medicine at Maastricht University where he graduated in 2008. And obtained his PhD at the Dept. of Urology of the Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen under the supervision of prof. Jack A Schalken and dr. John P.F.A. Heesakkers where he investigated afferent signaling (TRP-channels) and tissue barrier (glycosaminoglycans) of the urinary bladder. In 2013 he started his residency training in Nijmegen to become a urologist. Currently he is working in both research and clinic at the dept. of Urology. He is also Medical consultant at Andros-Gynos Health Clinic (Baarn & Arnhem) with a focus on multidisciplinary healthcare for Chronic pelvic pain, Bladder pain syndrome & functional urology. His research focusses on Overactive bladder syndrome & Bladder pain syndrome. For this, he received an AGIKO stipendia grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research & Development (ZonMW) in 2011 and received the Van Stockum Award for best Dutch urology PhD Thesis (yrs 2015 & 2016) by the Dutch Urology Society (NVU). In 2016, he and his team were voted 3rd place for the ZonMW Dutch Medical Inspirator Award. He reviews for high ranking, peer-reviewed urology journals such as European Urology and Neurourology & Urodynamics. Besides research, He is Coordinator and Teacher at the Faculty Technical Medicine of Twente University. He teaches urodynamics to clinicians by organizing national & international training courses (Paris, Upsala, Kuala Lumpur) and by hosting regular webseminars. He is member of the ICS committee School of Pelvic Pain. Member of the Dutch Chronic Pelvic Pain Guideline committee and he is Organizing Chair of the 2019 ESSIC Conference for Bladder Pain Syndrome (Amsterdam).
