About Diego Gomez

A taciturn individual that is a natural leader, and an IT business major that believes in addressing social issues, I am a melting pot of contradictory elements that form a unique concoction. My two greatest fears are becoming either ennuied or opinionated. To avoid both, in my three years at Northern Illinois University (NIU), keeping busy with extracurricular activities and self-learning has been an unshakable habit. I am in six student organizations, three of which I hold a leadership position. As a leader, I give my team tools rather than orders to work with them. When I was the VP of Finance for Sigma Phi Epsilon, I helped the chapter avoid a major loss in manpower and morale by developing customized payment plans for sixteen members with overdue membership fees, sparing the chapter a loss. As the VP of Fundraising in the Collegiate Association of Unreasonable Social Entrepreneurs (CAUSE), thanks to my own experience on the Fundraising Committee, I have prepared detailed instructions and templates to lead this year’s Fundraising Committee in raising for CAUSE to host our annual Social Impact Summit, an event where we educate others about social entrepreneurship. And as the VP of Community Service for the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), I partner with community leaders to provide volunteer opportunities for NSCS members. Aside from extracurricular activities, I am always learning, whether it is teaching myself IT skills, studying current events, or pondering innovative solutions to social issues. As a work colleague, I am the first person to volunteer to work extra hours or take someone’s shift, and I habitually show up an hour early.
