About Dilan Vara

As our world continues to rapidly evolve into a digital era, an increase in potent online cyber-attacks transpire which damages companies and ruin lives. Ransomware, malware and unethical hacking continue to jeopardize global organisations and individuals each day and with the little Cyber Defence there is in the world it can be hard to counter these malicious behaviours. This boosts and generates a passion for me to use my skills to help the forever rising cause. I have been intrigued by the power the world of Cyber Security posses and the skills used in the industry to protect. I have the drive to continue to learn more and expand my knowledge, ergo I was convinced that taking a path down Cyber Security is the next level of my life. Alongside listening to Cyber Security podcasts by Susanna Song and watching YouTube videos from creators such as InsiderPhd and the CyberMentor I have attended a variety of courses such as the Harvard’s CS50 Computer science course during which I learnt a range of additional key information and more specifically about the functions of Binary values. I have completed a Simpli-learn course on an introduction to Cyber Security which where I learnt about Networking, ethical hacking, cloud security, malicious attacks and more. This course really opened my eyes and brought a great passion towards the rising and expanding field of Cyber Security allowing me to start a self-learning project during my free time in ethical hacking. More recently, I completed another course from the team at Cybrary which offered me a deeper understanding into the fundamental roles in cyber security allowing me to acquire a more in depth knowledge of the specific field. Over the summer I attended a 5 day residential on Cyber First Advanced by the NCSC This further increased my skills and competencies in literacy, problem solving and team building. This course expanded my skills in the key areas of cyber security e.g. Implementing digital forensics, Understanding encryption technologies, Using open source intelligence techniques and Penetration testing. During my part time job as a Sales Assistant at JD sports I worked with a wide range of people enhancing my communication skills. My role as ‘supporting artist’ for Netflix /BBC helped me to adapt to new environments and enabled me to adjust my behaviour to varying situations. In my spare time I love cooking, having great inspiration from my family, making a variety of different cuisines from Asian to Italian to African. Also i have a strong passion for motorsport especially Formula 1 and WRC.
