Received initial training as a Combat Medic at Ft. Sam Houston. Worked as an EMT, then Paramedic post discharge. At the time of writing this I have a total of 11 years of experience in EMS. 6 being metropolitan, 5 years rural. The rural areas I’ve worked in have been especially invasive due to the wide array of injuries encountered, combined with extended transport times getting patients to higher acuity facilities, often 45-55 minutes away. The current service I work for performs calls to service, with 2500 transports on average. This is split between 2 ambulances. In order to better serve my patients in these extended transport times I underwent training and received my Flight Paramedic Certification to improve my understanding of pathophysiology, pharmacology, invasive treatments, and the predicted treatment of receiving facilities.
