About Dillon McLain

My passion for engineering really took hold when I developed a strong desire for problem-solving and applying logical, science-based, and tested theories to support my solutions. And while not always practical to the “engineering” ways, I also lend my sense of creativity and flare to projects and people. Ambition, a quality I continually strive for, along with many other attributes, personal characteristics, and guidance from mentors has placed me in my current role as a Transportation Engineering Project Manager, Roadway Supervisor, and Design Team Lead. In this role, I have significantly expanded my knowledge of technical and analytical engineering practices required to successfully develop transportation and related infrastructure. A priority to me, as I push further into project and client management, would include finding a balance between my established technical design background while growing into an experienced manager and respected leader among my peers. My principal expertise lies in comprehensive roadway design with a specialty skill in multi-use pathway and accessible facility design. Equipped with a thorough understanding of principles, procedures, federal rules and regulations, and methods of road design and related engineering, my unique solutions to accommodate and benefit all users of the transportation network is critically important to me. Through various channels of my personal and professional career, I have found additional opportunities to devote my time and resources in to. One such opportunity is the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). Becoming a member of ITE in 2014, I eventually embarked on a three-year commitment to the Montana ITE Section Executive Board, serving as President in 2020. Extending my service to Montana ITE, I was elected as the Section Representative to the ITE Mountain District through 2022. I continue to devote my time to ITE beyond my stint as an executive member, by serving as the Local Arrangement Committee Chair for the 2024 Annual Mountain District Meeting to be held in Montana. Other opportunities that I enjoy devoting time to include the Helena Chamber of Commerce Leadership Helena program, of which I was a participant in 2019-2020, as well as taking a position with Montana State University-Northern’s Civil Engineering Technology Advisory Board.
