About Dimitra Karachaliou

I am a Trainee Clinical Psychologist at the University of Liverpool with more than 20 years experience in the field of Psychology. I have a Ph.D. in Health Psychology from The University of Manchester. For my Ph.D. research project I focused on depression in people with long term conditions. After my PhD I worked for Self-help (The Big Life Group) in different posts including being the IAPT Hub manager where I worked alongside IAPT clinical leads and Operations managers delivering the IAPT services across Manchester. Besides management, I have completed a certificate in CBT and I am qualfied in mindfulness - MBSR/MBCT. I have completed a Masters Degree in Health Psychology which was fully funded by Aston University with research interests in Health Behaviours, Health Inequalities, Illness process & Behaviour, and risk taking behaviours (alcohol, drugs use, unprotected sex). During my degree in Psychology I focused on immigrants mental health and inclusion, including acculturation stress and resilience. I have volunteered and worked in different areas such as HIV services, learning disabilities, complex needs, secure units, mental health inpatients hospitals, peer support services, self help groups, drug and alcohol services to name a few. My passion is community psychology and I run women's groups focusing on wellbeing and leadership. I provide mental health and wellbeing workshops including mindfulness to organisations and charities. I am directly involved with a refugee charity in Manchester where I provide services as required. My approach is creative, direct and honest.
