About Dimitri Beeckman

Dimitri Beeckman is a professor of nursing science at Örebro University in Sweden and Ghent University in Belgium. At Örebro University, he serves as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Vice-Rector) for International Affairs, where he leads the university’s internationalisation strategy. He also represents Örebro University in the NEOLAiA European University Alliance, where he serves as Chair of the Steering Committee. At Ghent University, he directs the Master of Science in Nursing and Midwifery programme, one of the four academic master's programmes in Flanders, Belgium. The programme is designed with a forward-thinking approach, offering specialisations in advanced nursing practice, implementation science, and research. He also holds visiting professorships at the University of São Paulo in Brazil, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Monash University in Australia, and the University of Southern Denmark. His expertise spans skin and wound research, clinical trials, psychometrics, healthcare education, and implementation science. Dimitri Beeckman leads two major research groups: the Swedish Centre for Skin and Wound Research (SCENTR) at Örebro University and the Skin Integrity Research Group (SKINT) at Ghent University. He has played a key role in advancing wound care research, previously serving as president of both the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) and the International Skin Tear Advisory Panel (ISTAP). He is currently serving as the President of the European Wound Management Association (EWMA), the leading European organization dedicated to wound care. EWMA brings together healthcare professionals, researchers, and industry partners to advance best practices, education, and research in the field of wound management across Europe and beyond. With over 230 scientific publications in high-impact international journals, he has shared his research in more than 80 countries. He is an associate editor of the International Journal of Nursing Studies, the highest-impact nursing journal worldwide. He also serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing, the Journal of Tissue Viability, the EWMA Journal of Wound Management, and the Australian Journal of Wound Practice and Research. His contributions to nursing science have been recognised with international fellowships from the Sigma Theta Tau International Honour Society of Nursing, the European Academy of Nursing Science, and the American Academy of Nursing.
