About Dimitris Rizopoulos

I am a Professor at the Department of Biostatistics of the Erasmus University Medical Center in the Netherlands. I received an M.Sc. in statistics (2003) from the Athens University of Economics and Business, and a Ph.D. in biostatistics (2008) from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. I wrote my dissertation, as well as a number of methodological articles on various aspects of joint models for longitudinal and time-to-event data, and I am the author of the first book on this topic published by Chapman & Hall/CRC (http://jmr.r-forge.r-project.org/). I have been an Associate Editor for Biometrics and Biostatistics, and I am currently the co-Editor of Biostatistics. My primary research interests focus on the statistical analysis of repeated measurements on markers (longitudinal data analysis) with time-to-event data (survival analysis). Typical examples include among others: CD4 cell counts for HIV infected patients, NT-proBNP levels for pulmonary arterial hypertension patients, PSA levels for prostate cancer patients, and serum bilirubin levels for primary biliary cirrhosis patients. My focus is in measuring the strength of the association between such markers and the risk for an event (e.g, death), and assessing their predictive ability.
