Background
About Dinesh Vidhani
Expertise: 1) Synthesis of modified RNA nucleotides (azide/alkyne substituted uridine monophosphate) for click chemistry, metal catalyzed cross-coupling reactions, gold-catalyzed organic transformations, multi-step organic synthesis, asymmetric synthesis, and molecular modeling. 2) Computational chemistry, analyzing reaction networks, reaction prediction based on computational analysis, Data analysis, Data Visualization, SQL, Python, R and Java.3) Intellectual Property: Patent application drafting, and prior art searches.Research: Currently working on synthetic strategies to access macrocycles of size ranging from 9-15 carbons along with biologically significant germacrene type macrocycles and 1,3 & 1,5 borotopic shifts. Synthesized array of modified RNA nucleotide (alkyne/azide substituted uridine monophosphate) for click chemistry. Developed a novel method of synthesizing dienal precursors of vitamin A-type molecules. My discovery resulted in two US patents and several publications. Developed a method to synthesize (E, Z)-dienals with very high stereoselectivity. Provided mechanistic insights into Rh(I)-catalyzed tandem rearrangements leading to the (E, Z)-dienals. Developed a method to synthesize small conjugated dienes using gold(I)-catalyzed allenyl vinyl ether rearrangement. Discovered a novel method of accessing small molecule intermediates using stereoelectronically controlled gold(I) and fluoride gates. Discovered "proximity effect" in synthesis of heterocyclic compounds via electrocyclization of ortho-substituted nitroso styrenes. Developed a convenient method to synthesize N-butylated anilines which find application in the synthesis of natural products, biologically active compounds, dyestuffs, pharmaceuticals and conductive materials. Milligram to multi-gram scale synthesis of small organic molecules for the method development. Characterization and separation of novel organic compounds using analytical techniques such as NMR spectroscopy, FTIR, UV/Visible spectroscopy, polarimeter, ICP-AES, HPLC, GCMS, LCMS, mass spectrometry, column chromatography and TLC.Teaching: Organic-I & II (Lab/Lecture), Survey of Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry - I & II (Lab/Lecture), Introductory Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry-I, and Inorganic Chemistry - II.
