About Dirk Lietaert

My carrier in "Philips Bruges" has always been in the domain of Embedded software development for TV products. Starting as a developer in 1988, it moved towards more architectural type of activities. While the TV devision moved into the joint venture "TP Vision", my development activities have shifted towards Know How activities in the domain of Digital Broadcast reception, Internet TV and recently Cloud Gaming. Further restructuring of the Advanced Development group moved the organisation towards Agile - Scrum type of development activities with focus on the creation of Android applications for our TV platforms. Since 1988, software languages used evolved from PLM/ASM (8051 micro controllers), over (PROTO)COLD based controllers) towards C (MIPS based), C++ and Java. Development platforms have evolved from Unix (centralized build environment), towards PC (Windows) based build environments. Domain knowledge is spread over all aspects of TV (Audio/Video/Teletext/EPG/Broadcast reception, IPTV.); operating systems have evolved from scheduler based towards Linux and recently Android.System complexity moved from single processor-interupt driven SW stack to running multiple multi-threaded applications on multiple processors.
