About Divya Perumal

Divya Perumal, is a New Zealand and UK trained Ophthalmologist with advanced training in Glaucoma and Cataract Surgery. As a former optometrist and vision scientist, Divya has a special understanding of the optics of the eye and the evidence that dictates proper clinical practice. She received the prestigious ASEAN scholarship to study in Singapore and subsequently made Auckland her home. She studied at Epsom Girls Grammar and pursued an honours degree in Optometry from the University of Auckland. She was awarded the Senior Scholarship Award for best overall performance in Optometry (2004) and was actively involved in preparation of the Manual of Ocular Therapeutics for Postgraduate Diploma in Ocular Therapeutics, the first of its kind for therapeutic optometrists in New Zealand. She studied medicine at the University of Auckland. There, she was awarded the Calvin Ring Prize in Ophthalmology, for the best performance in her field. She subsequently was awarded the Arthur Thomas Paterson Scholarship in Ophthalmology. She undertook Ophthalmology training in New Zealand, and glaucoma subspeciality training in Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, UK. She previously worked at Eye Institute, Auckland and currently works at The Whatu Ora (Greenlane Eye Clinic), one of the largest public ophthalmic care service providers in New Zealand.
