About Dmani Washington

D’Mani Washington is a passionate and innovative storyteller eager to make her mark in animation. As a senior at Bowie State University majoring in Visual Communication and Digital Media Arts, she founded Butch Animation Studios, the university’s first animation club, fostering a creative community for aspiring artists. Since transferring from Prince George’s Community College in 2022, she has actively engaged in rigorous programs, including the Semester Undergrad Research Institute (SURI), where she explored the use of creating an animated short using game engines, and the Direct Effect Program, where her team placed second. Her technical expertise spans Adobe Creative Cloud, and in 2023, she applied these skills to create a successful explainer video for SERCO North America. D’Mani’s ambition has earned her spots in prestigious industry programs. In 2024, she became an EICOP finalist and was accepted into the DreamWorks Animation LAUNCH Fellowship, where she gained insight into the animation pipeline and collaborated with professionals like Head of Story Anthony Zeirhut. This fueled her passion for storytelling, inspiring her to lead a team of nine on her senior thesis film about sisterhood. Dedicated to crafting engaging, educational content for young audiences, D’Mani is honing her storyboarding skills through specialized courses and personal projects.
