In my 20 years in Canadian advertising and digital interactive I’ve witnessed — and been a part of — a digital revolution that has changed the industry forever. The pivotal moment for me was when flat, LCD monitors became good enough to compete with traditional tube displays. This not only allowed for the creation of large format screens but also paved the way for mobile devices as we know them.Those flat screens also played an important role in the formation of the company that I co-founded, bringing information and advertising to public spaces. Onestop Media Group pioneered the way that content and advertising was consumed and engaged with in out-of-home environments, and that was further recognized when we were acquired by Pattison Outdoor Advertising six years ago.I’ve worn many different hats throughout my years with Onestop and Pattison Outdoor. I’ve written code, developed games, 3D-modeled and animated, designed electronic circuits — all while managing a creative workshop of developers and designers. The executive side of my role has me working on financial forecasting, budgeting and presenting to our national offices and third party agencies across the country as our resident digital evangelist. Innovation is at the core of what I do every day at Pattison Outdoor. Augmented reality, virtual reality, robotics, microelectronics, modern web, proximity technologies, mobile tech and even artificial intelligence all fall under the expertise of my team who I challenge on a daily basis. The advertising world is ever changing and constantly requires us to push boundaries and innovate. This relentless pursuit for new tech has won us many awards from international and Canadian associations alike for cutting edge and sometimes “bleeding edge” projects. I maintain a blog to showcase some of the most innovative campaigns from all over the world.
