About Don Cunningham

As a structural engineer, I have substantial experience in both the design of new structures and the inspection, analysis, and rehabilitation of historic structures. Working in the transportation industry gave me the chance to work for a clients both public (PennDOT, INDOT) and private (Bombardier). While bridges have been the primary focus of my career, I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of other structure types, such as retaining walls, signs & lighting fixtures, and guideway appurtenances for airport peoplemover systems. Most of the professional work I've been involved with has been for steel or concrete structures, but as an undergrad at the University of Pittsburgh I spent some time studying FRP materials and have maintained a strong interest in alternative building materials ever since. Bridge inspection was a significant component of my previous jobs, and I have some experience with miscellaneous structure types as well (highway signs, runaway truck ramps, small tunnels, etc.). I have been a structural lead on a handful of smaller projects, and I strive to become a technical expert in the area of structural design.
