About Don Lamont

As the Director leading the 100 professionals in our Rivers, Dams & Maritime Practice at Atkins, I drive technical leadership, innovation and delivery by drawing on our sector and discipline specific skills to develop an industry leading capability with a reputation for technical excellence. My role builds on the knowledge and experience from my history of delivering complex projects of all sizes in the fields of maritime, river and coastal engineering. My excellent strategic, commercial and financial management skills have delivered work across a range of sectors and contract types. I am familiar with the context of projects and the range of services relevant to engineering from initial planning through to construction management, and the relevant consents and approvals processes. With a comprehensive understanding of the construction process I encourage the same level of expertise when leading high performing teams to reach set objectives whilst adapting to and accepting change. In my role, I use initiative to solve problems and take hands-on action to achieve superior outcomes in line with set objectives and performance targets. I strive to provide a supportive environment where people are empowered to do things that inspire them. My ability to have meaningful conversations with my teams on a wide range of issues, including their personal development, enables them to maximise their own performance leading to achieving our organisational goals. I believe strongly in a team approach where contribution is clearly spelt out but where recognition is shared equally. My “no-nonsense” approach to project delivery and my ability to build a trusting relationship with our clients is integral to the way I work. I consistently lead teams of multi-skilled, high performing experts deliver projects in many UK ports and harbours in collaboration directly through operators/owners and with contractors.
