I recently assumed the role of Workplace Health & Safety Manager at Amazon. Amazon is an amazing organization that places Safety at the top of every action and truly encourages and embraces efforts to create and maintain a safe work environment. I am excited to be part of the Amazon team! Before Amazon, I retired as the Emergency Management and Safety Coordinator for the City of Lacey and moved to Phoenix. I improved the Emergency Preparedness & Response Program at City of Lacey. I developed position requirements and checklists for personnel in the Emergency Operations Center. I was hired with a focus on Emergency Management and Safety; however, I eventually had to focus entirely on Emergency Management. Before City of Lacey, I worked as Safety and Health Manager at City of Tacoma. During my time there, I implemented Safety and Health processes and procedures that were instrumental in the reduction of injuries by over 33%. I am the former (Retired) Technical and Innovation Safety Manager at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Head Quarters; located in Washington Navy Yard, DC. During my three year overseas tour as the Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH) & Radiation Controls (RADCON)-(ESHR) Director; US Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center (SRF-JRMC). I supervised a professional ESHR staff of over 60 personnel; including Civil Service, Japanese Nationals, and Sailors. In my previous position as NAVSEA HQ Industrial Operations Safety and Occupational Health Manager, I was responsible for formulating and executing mission related NAVSEA policy, programs and priorities for NAVOSH program activities at NAVSEA HQ and subordinate commands. I provided assessment and oversight to ensure that NAVOSH program objectives were met while maintaining full compliance with Federal law and regulations, as well as DOD and Navy instruction and policies. I am a Team Leader, Policy Developer, Subject Matter Expert on NAVOSH policies and principles, and was a liaison to entities inside and outside NAVSEA. I was the NAVSEA POC for dealing with Federal, DOD and Navy Personnel including safety and health professionals, contractors, physicians, Industrial Hygienists, Marine Chemists, and OSHA managers. Contacts include ESH Directors, DOD Washington Headquarters Services, safety personnel, DC safety officials, fire inspectors, and engineers. I have extensive knowledge on Ship Building, Ship Repair, and Ship Breaking at Navy and Contractor Maritime Facilities. I provided expert advice to field level ESH Managers and others in the ESH Community.
