About Donald Johnston

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Mr. Johnston's broad experience as a corporate and commercial lawyer supports his work in procurement law and technology law and his experience as advisor to many early stage tech companies has given him valuable insight into the challenges that they face. He acts for many technology companies and has been involved in major acquisitions (including nuclear power plants), financings, development alliances and transactions of all kinds over his past decades of practice. His experience in procurement law extends to the Ontario Broader Public Sector rules and several P3 (public-private partnership) projects. Mr. Johnston formerly managed a consulting firm and had his own software development enterprise that developed law office software. He is also a co-founder and past President of the Canadian IT Law Association (now Canadian Technology Law Association), a national association of technology lawyers, and, since 2008, has been a member of the Council of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario and is currently on its Executive Committee. EDUCATION: Mr. Johnston graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a B.Comm. degree and from Osgoode Hall Law School of York University with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
