About Dong Yang

Prof. Yang Dong is an associate professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he also holds positions as the associate head of the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies, director of the International Shipping and Transport Logistics Master Program, director of PolyU Maritime Data and Sustainable Development Centre, and deputy director of the Shipping Research Centre. Prof. Yang serves as an associate editor for the International Journal of Shipping and Transport Logistics (IJSTL) and Maritime Policy & Management (MPM), as well as an editorial board member of the Journal of Transport Geography, Transportation Research Part E and Maritime Policy & Management. Prof. YANG is a Council Member of the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME)(2019 to now) and a Member of the Port Operation Committee to the Director of Marine in Hong Kong. Prof. YANG obtained his Ph.D. in maritime logistics science from Kobe University (GPA 5/5), Japan 2008. After that, he has successively served as an assistant professor at the Southern University of Denmark (2008-2010), a research fellow at the Centre for Maritime Studies, National University of Singapore (2010-2012), a senior research fellow at China Waterborne Transport Research Institute (2012-2016), meanwhile, he was the head of the project section at APEC Port Services Network, a regional organization aiming at promoting APEC port development. In Prof. YANG’s previous career, he has chaired funding from various sources, including ESCAP of the United Nations, APEC Transportation Working Group, National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), National Natural Science, Research Grants Council (RGC), NSFC/RGC Joint Research Scheme, Hong Kong Strategic Public Policy Research (SPPR), Policy Research Fund (PPR), Hong Kong Marine Department, Hong Kong Tourism Commission, etc. He has published more than 100 SCI/SSCI papers in reputable international academic journals, including but not limited to Transportation Research Part A, B, C, D, and E, Transport Reviews, Journal of Transport Geography, Transportation Science, Transport Policy, Energy, Applied Energy, Maritime Policy & Management, Maritime economics & logistics, Reliability Engineering & System Safety, etc. His current research interests fall into Empirical study, Big data analysis, Multi-modal data modeling and fusion, Technology innovation in transportation, Trade (international shipping) and regional economics, Emerging trade corridors, Port system evolution, etc.
