About Donna Harris
Serving those who are forgotten or left behind in a disaster or emergency is my passion. Seventy percent of the people left behind in an emergency or disaster are persons with disabilities or are from marginalized populations.I have the skills and experience to help organizations better serve people with disabilities. Since 1995, I have been part of the volunteer network on the Neighborhood Emergency Team in Portland. As a person with disabilities, I found that most emergency preparedness training did not include training for persons with disabilities. Additionally, most emergency preparedness organizations do not have strategic plans that are inclusive of persons with disabilities and marginalized communities. I am a resource for companies to prepare and advocate for persons with disabilities for inclusive emergency preparedness and for inclusive power outage planning. And then to consult and educate first responders and emergency management organizations on strategic planning and communication. Featured on KPTV (link below).
