About Donna Tran

Donna obtained her B.F.A. and Master of Science degrees in art and design education, with highest honors, at Pratt Institute. During the course of her career, she had the great opportunity to teach a full year with the NYCDOE public middle schools. Before delving into her career with the DOE, she have had the privilege of working for various community youth programs and a Museum Education program — the Whitney Museum Family Programs. Het teaching experiences have allowed her to educate different kinds of learners, implement different instructional methods and scaffolds, design a studio-based curriculum with student choice and create an engaging and welcoming learning environment. With her career and education, she has curated several student art shows and led an art portfolio prep session for 7th-8th graders. One of her greatest strength as an educator is having a deep understanding of her student’s unique needs. She is able to achieve this by developing her lesson plans to accommodate and differentiate various learning styles whilst keeping the lessons challenging and exciting. Furthermore, she ensure that her students are able to grasp learning concepts/goals and enhance their personal skills in art by providing high quality feedback, implementing interactive mini lessons, and re-teaching/re-visiting concepts. She describes herself as patient, collaborative, versatile, innovative and culturally responsive. Donna strongly believe in the importance for youth to have access to a meaningful art education experience and that art can open new perceptions for students in their lives — personally, socially, and professionally.
